  • Typically, the snow plow drivers are in their trucks and in route to their designated snow plow sections at 4 a.m. This occurs when the storm is a multiple day event or when the snow fall continues beyond the time when the snow plow driver ends the day on the previous day.

Otherwise, their normal daily start time is 7 a.m. If the storm is continuing or conditions are poor enough to warrant it, the drivers will remain on their routes until 8 p.m.

  • The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is the authority in charge of maintenance of the state highways and their statewide policy is to use straight rock salt to assist in melting ice and snow from those pavements.

Price County is the authority in charge of the maintenance of the county highways and that policy requires the use of a sand / salt mixture with 5% salt.

Using only the salt increases the deicing rate of the roadways, but at a much higher cost than the sand / salt mixture. The price per ton of salt is $92.59 and the price per ton for the sand / salt mixture is only $17 per ton.

    Highway Department
  • Price County does not have a bare road policy on the county highway system. Salt / sand is applied on hills, curves and intersections to aid in traction. Salt / sand is an abrasive, not a deicer.

  • The typical plow section is 40-60 lane miles. The plows cannot safely exceed 25-35 miles per hour (mph) while engaged in winter maintenance operations. This results in an average cycle time of 3-4 hours per round. Often times the plow may have been through and will not be back at that particular section for 3-4 hours.
    Highway Department
  • The Wisconsin Department of Transportation contracts with the Price County Highway Department to provide maintenance in the winter and summer months. The policies that govern maintenance are established by the state and followed by the counties. The state determines what roads receive 24-hour coverage based on the classification of each highway. Price County currently has a Class 4 and 5 road and the policy calls for 18 hours of continuous coverage.

Real Property Lister

3
  • The Real Property Lister is required to maintain the values established by the assessor for your municipality. If you do not agree with your values, you should first contact your assessor to discuss it. If you have any questions, please email the Real Property Lister.
    Real Property Lister
  • When new lots or parcels are created during the year, new parcel numbers are assigned. However, the thing to keep in mind is that assessments are based on how the property existed on January 1 of the given year. How the property existed on January 1 is how the tax bill will be printed at the end of the year. If a new Plat, certified survey map (CSM), or deed creates new parcels during the year, those parcels will not be assessable and taxable until the following year.

Contact the treasurer for your municipality, who is authorized by statute to split the tax bill for you upon your request. Please note that some counties process splitting of tax bills differently. Check with your county's Real Property Lister for information. If you have any questions, please email the Real Property Lister.
