1. What happens during a booking?

If you are booked into the Jail, you can expect to answer questions about your identity, such as your full name, address, social security number and phone number, as well as questions about your medical and mental health history. You will also be fingerprinted and photos will be taken.

2. Will I be allowed a phone call if I am booked into the Jail?

Yes. A phone call will be given to you upon completion of the booking as time allows and as long as no restrictions on phone calls have been placed.

3. What happens if I have to stay in Jail and will not be released right away?

If you are to be housed in the Jail, you will be placed in a holding cell for a maximum of 24 hours. You will be required to remove all jewelry, accessories and street clothing and you will be given a Jail uniform to put on.

4. What happens after I'm moved to general population?

After the first 24 hours you will be moved to general population as long as you pass a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT). Once in general population you will be given your Jail issued linens and hygiene items.

5. What if I need to pay a bond or post bail?

We will make every effort to assist you in paying a bond or posting bail. You will be given an opportunity to make a phone call for that purpose. A staff member will let you know what options you have when the time comes.

6. How do you determine how I will be classified?

Classification results are based on many factors, including current offenses, past criminal convictions and institutional behavior.

7. Once I'm classified, can my classification change?

Yes. You may be reclassified up or down a level during your incarceration based on judicial or behavioral changes.

8. Am I entitled to good time?

Inmates sentenced to the Jail are entitled to a reduction of sentence of one-fourth for good behavior if your sentenced to at least four days. This does not apply to persons serving as a condition of probation unless good time is specifically ordered by the judge or if the sentence is a mandatory minimum (i.e. OWI repeats who are sentenced with probation).

9. What about good time if I am serving a sentence on a Commitment Order or Child Support sentence?

If you are serving a sentence on a Commitment Order or a Child Support conviction you are not eligible for good time.

10. Can good time be taken away?

Yes. Violations of the law or any regulation of the Jail may result in the loss of up to two days of good time per violation.

11. When are meals served?

Breakfast is served between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., lunch is served between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and dinner is served between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

12. Are razors made available?

Razors, nail clippers and beard trimmers will be handed out upon request.

13. What if I need medical attention?

Medical services are provided exclusively by Correctional Healthcare Companies (CHC). If you need to see the nurse or a doctor, you may request an appointment. You will be charged $5 for a nurse visit and $10 for a visit from the doctor. If you have an emergency medical problem, the on duty Jail officer should be contacted immediately.

14. What if I need to take a prescription medication?

Prescription medications will be delivered by staff at designated times. You and your family are encouraged to provide your own prescription medications. Prescriptions must be current and in their original prescription container. If a medication you are taking is not on CHC's approved medication list, you may not be able to take it while incarcerated. If you do not provide your own prescription medications or if you need a new prescription while incarcerated, CHC will provide the medication for you.

15. What about over the counter medications?

You may request over the counter medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or antacid tablets (Tums) up to three times a week. You will be charged 25 cents per dose. Any other OTC medication, i.e. ibuprofen, Aleve or Milk of Magnesia, may be requested of the Jail nurse.

16. What if I need to see a mental health counselor?

Counseling appointments must be pre-approved by the Jail Administrator. All medications prescribed for mental health issues must be approved by the Jail medical staff.

17. Are alcohol and drug abuse counseling programs available at the Jail?

Yes. weekly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous are available for Minimum and Medium Security inmates and AA guidebooks are available in the Jail Library.

18. What about dental issues?

Jail medical staff will provide for any emergency dental issue you may have while incarcerated. If you are on work release you may make dental appointments with your regular dentist as long as the appointment is pre-approved by the Jail medical staff and the Jail Administrator.

19. What if I am sexually assaulted or harassed while I'm incarcerated?

The Price County Jail complies with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). All such allegations will be thoroughly investigated.

20. I know I can purchase hygiene items from the canteen, but what if I can't afford to?

All inmates are provided with a basic hygiene starter pack upon admission to general population. If, after that, you cannot afford to purchase replacement items, you may request necessary hygiene items and writing materials by filling out an Indigent Item Request form. Your Trust Account will be charged for any items ordered during your stay.

21. What happens to my property after I'm booked in?

Any money will be deposited into a Trust Account in your name. Any medication will e submitted to the Jail medical staff and locked in a secured medication storage area. Clothing and other property will be stored in a bin marked with your name.

22. What if I'm working and need things for my job?

Clothing needed for work release must be approved by Jail staff and will be placed in your property. Any other items necessary for your job must be pre-approved by Jail staff before being accepted into your property.

23. Is it okay if I have someone pick up my property?

You may release your property to another person by submitting a Property Release form. Whomever picks up your property will be required to show identification to receive your property.

24. What if I've been released and left something at the Jail?

If you have property at the Jail a written notice will be sent to you. If you do not retrieve your property within 5 days after receipt of the notice, your property may be disposed of.

25. How is my canteen money handled?

Money you bring in yourself or money that is brought in for you by family or friends will be deposited into a Trust Account in your name. Money in your Trust Account is subject to all Jail fees and charges. You will be able to request your funds to pay fines, child support obligations and other outside bills. You may also purchase canteen items with your funds. When you are released, any remaining funds will be used to pay any outstanding Jail debt. If no such debt is owed or you have funds in excess of your debt at the time if your release, a check will be cut to you and mailed to your last known mailing address.

26. What types of fees does the Jail charge?

The Jail charges $15 a day for housing, either pay to stay or Huber if you are working. You will also be charged $5 for a nurse visit and $10 to see a doctor. If you are on EMP you will be charged $15 a day for the bracelet or $17 a day if you are required to have a Breathalyzer.

27. Do I have to prepay any Jail fees?

If you are working you must prepay one week ($105) if your sentence is less than 14 days and two weeks ($210) if your sentence is more than 14 days.

If you are on EMP, you must prepay $210 for the Bracelet or $238 for the Breathalyzer if your sentence is more than two weeks. If you have a sentence of less than two weeks, you must prepay $150 for the Bracelet or $170 for the Breathalyzer.

28. Will I receive mail while I'm in jail?

Yes. You can receive and send mail while in jail. All incoming and outgoing mail will be processed through the United States Postal Service and will be delivered to you and picked up from you to be sent out Monday through Friday excluding holidays.

29. Will I be able to keep my cell phone in my cell?

No. Cell phones are prohibited in the Jail.

30. Will I be able to smoke or chew tobacco?

No. Tobacco and smoking materials is prohibited in the Jail.

31. Will I be able to attend religious programming?

Yes. All Minimum and Medium Security inmates are given the opportunity, on a voluntary basis, to practice their religion to the extent it is reasonable and practical. Weekly religious services are provided and the Jail Library contains religious materials. Maximum Security inmates are not allowed to attend religious programming unless special approval is given by the Jail Administrator or Sheriff.

32. Is there a television in the cell?

Yes. Televisions are provided in each cell block. Television privileges are dependent on your classification and are subject to removal for any jail rule violation.

33. Can I make phone calls?

Personal telephone calls may be made daily from the cell block dayroom. Calls can be made collect, by use of a calling card purchased through the Jail or by use of a prepaid account set up through CIDNET.

34. When is visitation and how long can I visit?

Visitation is on Sundays and Holidays between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Visits are limited to 15 minutes per visit.

35. Who can come visit me?

Visits are limited to immediate family only, which includes your spouse, parents, children, grandparents, siblings, in-laws and step-family. Anyone under the age of 18 will not be permitted to visit you.

36. What if I need to see my attorney?

Professional visits are allowed outside of regular visitation hours. Professional visitors should contact the Jail to schedule an appointment to see you.

37. When do I get canteen?

Canteen orders are submitted on Sunday and items you order will be delivered on Tuesday or Wednesday unless otherwise indicated by Jail staff.

38. How do I get Huber privileges?

You may be released for Huber if you were granted Huber by the Judge and if you meed the criteria set by the Sheriff.

39. How do I get out on the Electronic Monitoring Program (EMP)?

You may be released on EMP if you meet the criteria set by the Sheriff.

40. What is the Inmate Work Program?

If you are sentenced with Huber privileges you may be eligible for the inmate work program. This program allows you to work off your sentence on an hour to hour ratio, i.e. for every hour worked you get that many hours off your sentence. To participate in the program you must submit written request to the Jail Administrator.

41. It's my release day. When will I be released?

The normal release time is 10:00 a.m., but this is subject to change based upon staff availability, Huber work schedule, probation instructions, etc.
