6 p.m. Join the staff and friends of The Crazy Loon for an easy out and back paddle on Thursday evenings starting in June. Meet at a Phillips, WI area resort, restaurant, boat landing or park with plans to be on the water by 6 p.m. We paddle at a leisurely pace and, depending on the weather, stay out on the water for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. We often encounter wildlife, a great sunset and maybe even a full moon when we are a little more adventurous and stay out that late.

June 6 - September 6, 2009
Hwy. 13, Fifield
Open Saturdays & Sundays 1-5 p.m. the first weekend in June thru Labor Day. There is no admission charge. The old Fifield Town Hall served as a government building from 1894 until 1967. It had been built to replace the original hall that was lost in the fire of 1893. That fire destroyed the business district of Fifield. The large upstairs hall that held town meetings also hosted a variety of local social gatherings as well. The lower floor held the town government offices.
Today, this unique building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It houses artifacts from the loggings days of Price County from 1879 thru 1930s. Exhibits include the kitchen, a collection of households and personal items, and changing exhibits. A gift shop offers books about local and northern Wisconsin history and life.
Greenfield School, a one-room school, was moved to this site in 1998. It has been restored and serves as a repository for Price County rural school history, school artifacts, research materials and books. It is also the society's office which serves the museum.

ALL SCHOOLS REUNION
June 13, 2009
Municipal Building, Catawba
Noon - This is a social event with an historic twist. The idea, formed in 1999, was to include present and former students of south western Price County, focusing on the Kennan-Catawba area. The first reunion was held at the Catawba Elementary School the second Saturday in June of 2000 and it continues annually by popular demand.
A potluck meal at noon begins the festivities, followed by an informal program which has in the past included displays of photos of the 12 rural school houses, a storyteller, audience participation of shared memories, such as school lunches (carried in syrup or lard pails), walking to school experiences, and playground games. Our most ambitious project was to identify all the teachers who taught in the 12 rural schools and two state graded schools. It is a work in progress, but it has been quite successful. The names will be available to genealogy researchers.
This event continues to be popular with local people and visitors as well, who come back to reminisce. At the present time, all public schools in this area have closed, so this is truly a part of preserving local history. The event is sponsored by the Jump River Valley Historical Society.

SPIRIT OF BRANTWOOD
August 28 & 29, 2009
Hwy. 8, Brantwood
Get ready to spin the spokes on your motorcycle Saturday morning, Aug. 28 as you're invited to take part in a 150-mile cycle tour featuring the best in Northwoods scenery. The motorcycle tour starts from Brantwood and is part of the inaugural Spirit of Brantwood festivities. The route will take motorcyclists (you can also tour by car) from Brantwood to Minocqua and back. Part of the route goes along the scenic Wisconsin River. A group start is planned at 10 a.m. Saturday with stops along the way. All ride registration money goes to the Kippenberg Creek Kids, a camp taking terminally ill kids fishing and hunting and other wildlife activity. After those hours in the saddle, you're ready for the music, food and fun and they have you covered. The Spirit of Brantwood invites everybody, including the public, to the ball fields in Brantwood (behind the post office and credit union) where Older But Wiser plays Friday night and Roadtrip entertains Saturday night. There will be other bands performing, according to one of the event organizers, Wendy Wagner. Free, primitive camping is available at the ball fields. Food and refreshments will be available throughout the weekend, including a breakfast Saturday morning, and later in the day, enjoy the Big Bison Feed. The bison feed features the bison products of the David and Dan Kivela Buffalo Farm just outside of Brantwood. Coffee and delicious cinnamon buns will be available Sunday morning for your trip home. There will be a Swap Meet sponsored by Lincoln County Cycles. E-mail: cwwagnerllc@verizon.net
