Return
to Top
June 1-September 2, 2007
Hwy. 13, Fifield
Open Fridays & Sundays 1-5 p.m. the
first weekend in June thru Labor Day. There is no admission charge.
The old Fifield Town Hall served as a government building
from 1894 until 1967. It had been built to replace the original
hall that was lost in the fire of 1893. That fire destroyed the
business district of Fifield. The large upstairs hall that held
town meetings also hosted a variety of local social gatherings as well.
The lower floor held the town government offices.
Today,
this unique building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It houses artifacts from the loggings days of Price County from 1879 thru
1930s. Exhibits include the kitchen, a collection of households
and personal items, and changing exhibits. A gift shop offers books
about local and northern Wisconsin history and life.
Greenfield
School, a one-room school, was moved to this site in 1998. It has
been restored and serves as a repository for Price County rural school
history, school artifacts, research materials and books. It is also
the society's office which serves the museum.
For
information or tour reservations, write PCHS, P.O. Box 156, Fifield, WI

16th Annual CANDLELIGHT SKI
February 9, 2008
Flambeau River State Forest , Winter
6-9 p.m. Annual Cross-country skiing at night by candlelight on the Flambeau Hill Ski Trail beginning at the Flambeau Hills Trailhead. A 1.8 kilometer loop of trail will be groomed, tracked, and lit with over 600 candles. The trail is for skiers or hikers and winds through the heart of the forest. The trail is wide enough for diagonal striders and skate skiers. Picnic tables and a large barbecue grill will be available near the trailhead for persons who wish to cook out. Large warming fires will also be built and maintained throughout the night. The forest staff promotes this as a casual family-type outing and hopes that families and friends come and spend the evening with them. The candles should provide a luminescent atmosphere for all to enjoy. Starting at 5 p.m. that Saturday, all day-use fees at the trailhead will be waived. The Flambeau Hills Trailhead is located on Cty. Hwy. W 20 miles west of Phillips or 15 miles east of Winter. This event will take place regardless of snow conditions. E-mail: freemj@dnr.state.wi.us
